When divers have completed training with other organisations they can use those qualifications to allow them to move into the PADI system at the next higher level. When you meet the pre-requisite requirement for a course in this way we call it a qualifying certification.
e.g. the pre-requisite to Advanced Open Water Diver is PADI Open Water Diver or qualifying certification.
When we look at another organisation’s course to determine which PADI level (s) it can qualify for as a pre-requisite we check whether it covers everything the pre-requisite PADI course would have done.
In some cases the certification limits are similar to the PADI course, but the course content has significant differences or vice versa. This doesn’t mean either course is better or worse than the other, just that we each have our own system and sometimes introduce abilities, knowledge and skills in a different order.
So, we have been looking at ways to help bridge some of the gaps to help divers move into PADI TecRec. The first one will help divers with “Normoxic” Trimix certifications from other organisations join the PADI Tec Trimix Course. Previously, this would have meant completing the full course, now we have a route that credits the normoxic trimix experience divers already have.
