Whether you are a diver or instructor, as you probably know, PADI offer specialty programs to complement our core courses. There are also some PADI authored distinctive specialty courses, that any suitably qualified and experienced instructor can apply to teach. PADI TecRec has two distinctive specialty courses:
The PADI Tec Basics course is a bridge from recreational to technical diving. It exposes recreational divers to tec
diving and entry level tec diving skills and equips them with the information they need to decide whether or not to
accept the additional risk and commitment that PADI Tec courses demand. The PADI Tec Basics course runs within
recreational limits, using segments from PADI Tec 40 Dives 1 and 2. Students practice fundamental tec skills before deciding whether to enrol in the full PADI Tec 40 program. The course also recognizes students who choose not to continue their technical training.
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (PADI Rescue Diver recommended)
30m maximum depth
Two confined water dives
Two open water dives
Open circuit tec equipment; either double back or side mount cylinders
One decompression cylinder.(Skills are developed without the deco cylinder first)
Credit towards Tec 40 Diver:
Knowledge Development One and Two Tec 40, Practical Applications One and Two and Training Dive One may be credited towards the PADI Tec 40 Diver if all performance requirements have been met. Credit towards Tec 40 Diver is valid for 12 months from the completion of the Tec Basics Distinctive Specialty.
Any PADI Tec Instructor can apply to teach Tec Basics.
TMX 45 and 50 Diver
This course is an ideal add on to the Tec 45 and 50 Diver courses, with divers being introduced to trimix during two dives. The aim of TMX 50 and TMX 45 is to produce divers with theoretical knowledge and pragmatic experience who can adapt what they have learned to correctly and safely analyse trimix blends, plan and execute decompression dives within the depth and decompression gas limitations of their existing technical diver qualifications, using a trimix blend with no less than 21% O2 and no more than 20% He and a planned decompression of no longer than 20 minutes.
PADI Tec 45 or 50 Diver
Two open water dives.
Max depth 45m/145ft or 50m/165ft depending upon diver’s certification level.
Any PADI Trimix Instructor can apply to teach this course. You only need to make (and pay for) one application, but you will receive two certifications so that you can teach both levels. For more info please click https://tecrec.padi.com/instructor-toolbox/tmx-45_50-info-for-instructors/
If you are a PADI Member you can find the outlines on PADI.com/mypadi under Training Essentials/TecRec/PADIDistinctiveSpecialtyTemplates and can apply using the normal specialty instructor application process.
