Tulamben, Bali and the wreck of the USS Liberty played host to the first PADI Rebreather Instructor Course in Indonesia. The unit specific instructor course was for the Poseidon MK6 Discovery eCCR.

The four day program began with the Course Assist component of the course. We chose a simulation course assist and spent the day completing a confined water session and two open water dives on the USS Liberty. It was a great way to evaluate the candidates and their skill level before starting the program the next day.

Day two started in the classroom with some Instructor Trainer led presentations and followed with the first of the Practical Application sessions, assembling the units. After lunch we spent almost 5 hours in the pool going through all the skills, confined water teaching presentations and a rescue workshop. The guys on the course were all very capable PADI instructors and this was most evident in the fact that they all knew the PADI system very well. The challenge for them was to integrate the new and very different information and skill set to their presentations. And challenged they were!

Early dinner and back to the rooms for some homework…. preparing knowledge teaching presentation for the next morning.

Day three again began in the classroom with the Knowledge Teaching Presentations. Here it was interesting to note that although all the candidates knew the presentation sequence, some steps were forgotten under the pressure of the new CCR information which was not so familiar. All did well however and of course were relieved to have progressed through that session.

The Marketing session was of great benefit to all. The candidates started to see the really opportunities that this new and exciting way of diving could bring to their region.

That afternoon and the next morning were spent doing the Open Water Teaching Presentations. By this stage their confidence levels had risen and it was great to see some very high scores on all presentations. The differences in open circuit training and CCR training was also starting to be evident to all candidates. The course was finished up with a final exam.

A big congratulations to Andi Zulkifli, Harold Grosser, Jan Bebe and Ganesh Adisatwika on becoming PADI Poseidon MK6 Rebreather Instructors. It was a wonderful week spent in Bali. Also, special thanks to Emma Hewitt of PADI, Alex Boulton and the crew from PADI Asia Pacific and Udo Hartig from Divemasters Indonesia for making this course happen.
