Dive Rite Optima CCR

Alex Boulton (PADI Asia Pacific Technical Consultant) & Thomas Knedlik (PADI Instructor Examiner & PADI Asia Pacific Training Consultant) recently had the chance to try a Dive Rite Optima Rebreather in Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne. PADI Master Instructor Rubens Monaco owner of IDC Scuba in Portsea introduced us to the unit explaining the operation of the hammerhead handsets, the HUD & DIVA information and talked us through the design assumptions and intentions of the unit in particular the location of the scrubber and the unit’s application for diving in an overhead environment.

Rubens had completed his instructor training with Lamar Hires of Dive Rite so it was a good opportunity for us to hear the rationale behind the unit’s design. The unit seemed compact and user friendly and it was a pleasant surprise to dive an over the shoulder counter lung unit that immediately offered good in water trim. Thanks to Rubens for giving us the opportunity to try a Dive Rite Optima.
