The Explorer is a revolutionary electronically controlled semi-closed rebreather, which Caney said “should fit very well with the PADI Recreational Rebreather courses.”

On the 14 – 15 May 2011 PADI will be running a TecRec Xplor event in conjunction with the Big Scuba Trial http://thebigscubatrial.com/ in Trearddur Bay, Anglesey.
What is it about?
PADI TecRec Xplor Days represent an opportunity for you to enjoy tec diving- related experiences, find out more about technical diver training and use technical diving equipment. The day comprises three main areas:

No equipment sales are being made at the TecRec Xplor event – this is a chance to try manufacturers’ equipment in the pool, including equipment from Hollis, VR Technology Ambient Pressure and Poseidon.
The Training Department from PADI EMEA will be on hand to advise divers on the full range of PADI TecRec courses.
This is the second in a series of exciting events that will continue to raise the profile of technical diving in the UK – we hope you will be able to join us.

All PADI Professional Members, PADI Dive Centres and divers are welcome to attend PADI TecRec Xplor. Attendance is free, but pre-registration to try technical equipment and closed circuit rebreathers in the pool is highly recommended as numbers will be limited on the day.
Pool sessions will be allotted on a first come, first served basis and will take place between 9am and 11am each day. Speaker presentations will take place between 11am and 2pm.

The first of the Tec Xplor days took place in Portland, UK, on Saturday 4th December. Despite atrocious weather conditions in the run up to the event, divers from across the region turned out at Osprey Leisure Centre for a day of Tec.
Highlights included the opportunity to test dive the Poseidon Mk VI and the Sentinel rebreathers, along with the chance to try out sidemount equipment from Hollis and open circuit tec equipment from Halcyon. Throughout the day speakers gave presentations on subjects ranging from dry suit construction to cave exploration, with Mark Caney delivering a talk on the upcoming PADI rebreather courses for 2011. Also on display was VR Technology’s new eSCR which caused great excitement. Throughout the day free RIB diving was laid on by Fathom and Blues Dive Centre, giving divers the chance to experience the local dives around Portland Harbour. Thank you for to all the divers, manufacturers and PADI Pros who turned out to support this event.

In response to the demand from divers for ever more Tec activities, PADI TecRec is introducing the first of a series of TecRec Xplor one-day events in the UK. These events provide an exciting opportunity for divers to find out more about PADI tec diving, equipment and training. Seasoned technical divers or divers who are simply curious to find out more about this exciting area of scuba diving will find something to suit them at the PADI TecRec Xplor events.

The PADI TecRec Xplor events include:The first TecRec Xplor event will be on Saturday 4th December 2010 at Osprey Leisure Centre in Portland. Doors will open to the public at 10 am. Divers will have the opportunity to view the latest technical diving equipment available from a wide range of manufacturers, and will also be able to use this equipment in the leisure centre swimming pool. Throughout the day there will be a series of talks on technical diving and PADI TecRec courses. There will also be the chance to dive a rebreather in the swimming pool, and meet local dive centres and charter boat companies. Divers also have the option to link up with local PADI Dive Centres, to make Sunday a day of technical diving in the Portland area.
Attendance to the event is free of charge. So don’t miss this chance to enjoy a day of Tec! TecRec Xplor events will be conducted across the UK, with additional venues planned for 2011 in London and the North of England.
