The Rebreather Event of the Decade –Rebreather Forum 3

Shape the future for closed-circuit technologies by registering for your spot at Rebreather Forum 3 (RF3), 18-20 May 2012 at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Florida, USA.  RF3 promises to be a landmark event that will help shape the use of rebreather technologies in several dive communities. More than 100 tec instructors, rebreather divers and industry personnel have already booked their spot at the event.

RF3 aims to address the major issues surrounding rebreather technology and its application in sport, military, research and scientific diving. The three-day program will be divided into sessions that cover different aspects of rebreather technology. The objective is to provide a common base of knowledge regarding rebreathers, identify key safety, training, technology and risk management issues, then develop community guidelines to improve diver safety. Topics up for discussion include:

  • Hazard Analysis and Human Factors
  • CO2 Scrubber Technology
  • CO2 Sensors
  • O2 Sensors and O2 Control
  • Pre-Market Testing
  • Post-Market Monitoring
  • Post-Incident Testing
  • Semi-Closed Systems
  • Operations and Training

So what is RF3 all about? “The main aim of RF3 is to evaluate the state of the art,” states Dr. Neal Pollock, Research Director for DAN and one of the organizers behind RF3. Pollock continues:

In a nutshell the theme of RF3 is to improve understanding, which we hope will translate to improved safety across the board. We can always do things better. So, it is a rationality check to see if we can make things safer. We’re therefore going to assess the current situation [regarding] manufacturing, testing, training and dive protocols to check that we are doing this as safely as we can and highlight areas that need improving so that we can move forward. Hence we’ve convened this conference to put a lot of opinions into the room, rather than relying on a set of interpretations from one particular organization or company. Doing it this way allows us to pull together all the different views and analyze the results through one lens.

The conference parties are a great place to catch up with friends and colleagues from around the world or grab an informal chat with speakers or exhibitors. Attendees will be spoiled for choice with representatives including training organizations, dive centers, equipment manufacturers the media and, of course, rebreather equipment teams.

The Caribe Royale All-Suite Hotel and Convention Center is hosting the event and is perfectly located just twenty minutes fromOrlandoInternationalAirport. It’s an award-winning hotel with a modern finish, two swimming pools and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
