Hi,
I’m currently a TDI Deco Procedures instructor and IANTD Advanced Nitrox instructor, is it possible for me to cross over, and if so could you tell me how I do that?

Hi David
As a PADI Instructor who holds either the IANTD Advanced Nitrox Instructor qualification or the TDI Decompression Procedures Instructor qualification (and the equivalent student level certifications), it would certainly be possible for you to crossover to become a DSAT Tec Instructor. You will first need to ensure you fulfil the following additional requirements:
1. Be a renewed PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer
2. Be a PADI Enriched Air Instructor.
3. Be a PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor.
4. Have a minimum of 20 stage decompression dives.
5. Have taught at least 2 courses that are equivalent to Tec 40 (for example, having taught two TDI Deco Procedures courses or two IANTD Advanced Nitrox courses…)
6. Complete the Tec Instructor written exams. These can be completed at a scheduled crossover seminar, or at an IE by prior arrangement. You may also wish to speak to your local DSAT Instructor Trainer who may be able to assist you with these exams, and also advise you on how to upgrade further to full Tec Deep Instructor.
I hope this information is of help – if you have any further questions, please feel free to email me at rich.somerset@padi.co.uk and I would be happy to advise you.

Rich, i’m a ITDA Deco Nitrox and Technical Nitrox instructor. A PSAI Twinset, Advanced Nitrox, Extendard Range and Advanced Wreck Instructor.
Have done 8 Deco Nitrox courses (45m) and 3 Tech Nitrox courses (55m) and assisted on 1 technical instructor development course.
Wouls this be enough to crossover?

Hi Richard,
I have a couple of questions.
When can we start implementing the new courses in our shop and how soon will we receive the new course standards from DSAT.
What would be the difference of the new tri-mix 65 course vs the old full tri-mix
I’m a DSAT Tri-mix instructor since 2007 will i need an additional course to teach full all?

Hi Zainal
You can start to implement the new standards just as soon as you have received the instructor materials needed to teach the course in question. As with all new standards there will be a phasing-in period during which you can continue to offer the ‘old’ courses so as to avoid inconvenience to your students.
The new materials are due to arrive at the end of September – please contact the Sales Department to arrage your delivery.
Existing instructors do not need to undergo any new training to offer these courses – you will simply need to ensure you have the relevant instructor manual to the course. If you have any questions once you receive your instructor guides, please email me at rich.somerset@padi.co.uk
All the best
Rich

Hi Joolz
Thank you for your query. Your qualifications will allow you to become either a Tec Instructor or a full Tec Deep Instructor.
Becoming a Tec instructor is very easy – you can simply attend one of the upcoming Tec Instructor Crossovers in Bristol and, upon successful completion of the requirements on the day, you will be upgraded to Tec Instructor. The good news is that this process is free – just check which date suits you and let us know when you will be attending. If you would like a registration form please email me at rich.somerset@padi.co.uk and I can send one out to you.
You are qualified to go straight in at Tec Deep Instructor if you prefer. This process (altough slightly more involved) remains straightforward, You will need to contact a Tec Rec Instructor Trainer and complete some training with them. This training will include written exams and a peer review. They will also be able to verify your experience and, once you have completed these steps, you will be able to apply for your Tec Deep Instructor rating. It is possible, of course, to first become a Tec Instructor and then upgrade to full Tec Deep Instructor at a later date.
I hope this is of help – please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I am a SDI/TDI Instructor Trainer through Advanced Trimix (OC) and Advanced Mixed-Gas CCR. I am also an IANTD Trimix (OC and CCR) Instructor. I am a PADI MSDT with EAN and Deep specialties. I have the prerequisite number of certs for my crossover. What TecRec level can/will I crossover to?
I am leaving the CCR world and would like to work just with PADI for all of my instructional needs.

I also have IT ratings for Nitrox Blender, and Advanced Gas Blender.

Dear Mike
Your ratings will mean that you can crossover as both a Tec Deep Instructor and a Tec Trimix Instructor. There are a couple of steps involved in this process.
You will first need to become a Tec Deep Instructor. To do this you will need to complete the following:
1) Complete the Tec Deep Instructor standards exam and theory exam
2) Complete a peer review with a Tec Deep Instructor or a PADI Instructor with an equivalent rating
3) Provide proof of assisting on either two Tec 45 or 50 courses, (or equivalent courses with TDI you have taught previously)
4) Have a Tec Deep Instructor (or a PADI Instructor with an equivalent rating) verify your logged dives and experience
Given your experience it sounds very likely that you will have the required experience in terms of both diving and assisting on courses, meaning that you would simply need to complete the exams and the peer review. You may wish to contact your local Instructor Trainer who can arrange this for you.
Once you a a Tec Deep Instructor you can upgrade to Tec Trimix Instructor. to do this you would need to complete the Tec Trimix Instructor exams and also provide proof of experience assisting on a Tec Trimix course or equivalent. You would also need to have your diving experience verified by a suitably qualified individual – again, it sounds like this will be straightforward for you. You can complete the Tec Deep Instructor and Tec Trimix Instructor crossovers one after another and submit all your paperwork at the same time, so it may be appropriate to speak to an Instrutcor Trainer who can offer to do all of this in one go for you.
If you would like further information on where to find your local Instructor Trainer, or to receive copies of the Instructor applications for each of these qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me at rich.somerset@padi.co.uk
With kind regards
Rich
