DSAT Tec Diving Conference
The conference took place today in New Jersey, USA. 78 people had pre registered for the conference and everyone agreed that the day had been informative and thought provoking.
Drew Richardson opened the meeting and set the tone for the day by comparing technical diving to space exploration and identified how often recreational diving has benefited from advances made in technical diving. This theme was embellished by the next presenter, Mark Caney, who analysed trends in CCR development, looking in particular at what might be needed for this technology to be appropriate for recreational divers. As part of Mark’s topic, Kurt Sjöblom described considerations leading to the design of the Mk VI Discovery CCR.

Steve Mortell then led a discussion on specialty technical diving training, and outlined how these may be applied to TecRec courses. Following lunch, Karl Shreeves and Jeff Loflin covered the topic of sidemount and outlined how flexible a mounting system it can be for open water diving as well as cave diving.
James Morgan then looked at how the TecRec range of courses might evolve and, with Mark Caney, facilitated a lively discussion on future developments for the range.
Finally, Drew facilitated a panel discussion; one which included Mike Fowler of Silent Diving Systems, Kurt Sjöblom of Poseidon Diving Systems, Paul Heinerth of Hudson Grotto, Jeff Loflin, DSAT IT, Nick Jenny of Blue Horizons, Jason & Wayne Fisch of The Scuba Connection, Bill Ruth of OMS and Pete Nawrocky of Dive Rite.

The event was a great success and many participants asked for similar ones in the future. More details of the points raised will be released later.

Being a PADI instructor since the late 70′s (# 8228), I was very pleased to see the positive feed back and all the intelligent questions and comments made by many participants. I would like to offer my best to the DSAT team as they did a great job in N.J. Tech Conference of March 30th. Drew Richardson convinced me that DSAT is ready to take on the next level and he has an open mind.
I welcome the new fervor and direction.
Good job, gentelmen.
